The bound Shiva is the individual self (jiva), and the liberated self is the supreme Shiva. [Shri Netra Tantra]
In the beginning, the supreme Shiva manifested as two principles: Shiva (consciousness) and Shakti (energy). Their union gave rise to a new dimension of energy, which is the essence of Shiva. From this essence, the universe and all knowledge emerged.
However, as time passed, Maya (illusion) entered this pure knowledge, and the world became filled with the three gunas (qualities). This is the world we experience today, a world of duality, where we are trapped in the cycle of birth and death.
To attain liberation, we must understand Maya, experience it, and then transcend it. This is the journey of self-realization, where we move from the lowest chakra (Muladhara) to the highest (Sahasrara).
As we progress on this journey, our consciousness expands, and we realize that we are not separate from the universe. We are not just individuals; we are the supreme Shiva itself.
The mantra “Aham Brahmasmi” (I am the universe) is not a statement of ego but a realization of our true nature. We are not just a drop of impure water; we are the ocean itself, and our journey is to realize this truth.
When we merge with the supreme, our individuality dissolves, and we become one with the universe. This is the ultimate goal of spiritual growth.
But beware of those who claim to be avatars or gods, for they are either mentally ill or charlatans. True spirituality is not about external displays or claims but about inner transformation and self-realization.
As the great sage Shri Ramakrishna said, “The ultimate truth is not to be found in books or scriptures but in the depths of one’s own heart.”
May we embark on this journey of self-discovery and realize our true nature as the supreme Shiva.
